  • Report any lost or stolen cards immediately by calling our 24 hours Call Centre on 4447 8000.
  • Never write down or disclose your Personal Identification Number (PIN).
  • Never leave your cards unattended such as in a bag or jacket in a public place - treat your cards as if they were cash.
  • Sign the back of your new card as soon as you receive it using an ink pen.
  • Destroy unwanted or expired cards so no one else can use them - remember to cut through the Chip and magnetic stripe
  • Never carelessly dispose of receipts, mini receipts or balance enquiries – destroy or shred them.
  • Verify any transaction amount before signing or entering your PIN.
  • Never give your card to anyone, particularly in restaurants and especially when abroad, for long periods of time. Try not to let your card out of your sight when making a transaction.
  • Do not give your PIN number to retail and restaurant staff.
  • Do not lend your cards to anyone.
  • Only carry the cards you need, especially when abroad.

  • Put your personal safety first. If someone makes you feel uncomfortable cancel the transaction and use a different machine.
  • Try and conduct ATM transactions during the day. Most ATM crimes occur at night.
  • Use ATMs under video surveillance or those located inside a bank lobby.
  • While overseas, try NOT to use ATMs which are in isolated locations, i.e. near hotels / car parks / outside malls.
  • Be alert. If someone is crowding or watching you, cancel the transaction and go to another machine.
  • If you spot anything unusual about an ATM machine don't use it. Never put yourself at risk by attempting to remove any suspect devices from an ATM machine. Report it to your local branch or if the branch is closed report it to your local Police station.
  • Protect your PIN. Cover the keypad while you enter the number.
  • Once you have completed a transaction put your money and card away before leaving the area.
  • If the ATM does not return your card report this to us immediately.
  • Be suspicious of signs telling you to use a specific ATM.
  • Don't accept offers for any help at an ATM. Leave immediately.
  • Ensure that you are set up to receive SMS alerts for all transactions made with your card.
  • Report immediately any SMS alerts that you do not recognise to our 24/7 Call Centre on 4447 8000.
  • Ensure that you are the only person that knows your PIN. Your bank or the police will never phone you and ask you to disclose it. Never write it down or record it.
  • When entering your PIN use your free hand and your body to shield the number from prying eyes or hidden cameras. If you think someone has seen your PIN you can change it by contacting us immediately.
  • Memorise your PIN and destroy any paper notification as soon as you receive it. Ensure that you do not use traceable facts about yourself i.e. your date of birth when choosing a PIN number or password.
  • If you think someone knows your PIN report this immediately.
  • Register with ibq Card Secure for online fraud protection.
  • Avoid additional merchant charges when using our ibq card abroad, by choosing to pay in the currency of the country you are in.
  • It is advisable to take another card or alternative payment method with you so that you are not reliant on just one card.

  • Always try and use modern ATMs owned by other banks or reputable institutions and avoid freestanding ATMs.
